Nobody can say that John Stava hasn’t lived large!
Born in California, John always knew he wanted to be a pilot. At the young age of 20, he joined the United States Air Force and soon thereafter married his forever sweetheart, Sandy.
Over the next decade, they welcomed three babies into the world – Jeff, who was born in Aroostook County Maine, Mathew and Sarah. He proudly served his country, saw action in the Vietnam War, and retired as a decorated Air Force pilot.
Family connections brought the Stavas to Tulsa in 1970, and he quickly found his niche within the Tulsa construction industry.
John started working with his uncle for Gilmore and Wilson Construction business. There was a ten-year partnership with Lee Butler and John Mudd at Allied Construction. He soon started his own company, Stava Building Corporation with a focus on commercial construction.
That was 32 years ago.
Over the next several decades, John Stava became a recognized name in Tulsa. He and Sandy raised three thriving children (who blessed them with seven grandchildren).
During his successful construction career, he developed and constructed many projects several of which were retained as landlord.
John also actively joined and assisted many worthwhile community organizations, such as Tulsa Air and Space Museum, Tulsa Ballet, Tulsa Opera, The Salvation Army, and The Rotary Club of Tulsa. John currently serves as Board Chair of the Tulsa Zoo Management company.
"I've been very blessed to call Tulsa home these past 50 years," John Stava said. "It's such a tremendous community with so many great people. To have the opportunity to raise my family and work here in Tulsa has been extremely rewarding."
Almost four years ago, John decided it was time to actively pursue a successor for Stava Building.
He simply wanted to spend more time flying, playing golf, enjoying his lake cabin, and experiencing quality family time.
Although he welcomed new owners to Stava Building in 2018, John still likes to spend time in the Stava offices working on his other business adventures and sharing words of wisdom.
